MSI introduces multimedia laptop with GeForce 820M GPU
MSI has announced the CX61 2PC, a multimedia laptop whose main feature is an Nvidia GeForce 820M GPU. The manufacturer comes with variants of the 15.6 “laptop with resolutions of 1920×1080 and 1366×768 pixels.
The CX61 2PC will be available with Core i5s and Core i7s of the Haswell generation, and there is room for a single hard drive and up to 16GB DDR3 in the case. The most striking thing about the laptop is the presence of the GeForce GT 820M GPU from Nvidia.
This is the first GPU in Nvidia’s new 800M series, although it is only a name change. The GPU is actually still the GF117 based on the older Fermi architecture, which was also already in the GeForce 710M, 720M and some 620M models.
Furthermore, the CX61 2PC has a DVD burner, HDMI 1.4, gigabit Ethernet and a duo of USB 3.0 ports. The weight is 2.5 kg and the thickness is 32.3 mm. Although MSI says it is aimed at multi-media, office and casual game users, the presence of the entry-level GPU and the arrival of models with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels shows that budget models of the laptop can be expected.
