MSI is the first manufacturer to announce variants of the GTX 1060 and GTX 1080 with faster memory. Nvidia announced at the presentation of the GTX 1080 Ti at the beginning of this month that these versions would be available.

MSI will use the faster memory on new Gaming X models of its GTX 1080 and GTX 1060. These will have the addition “Plus” in the name to indicate that they have faster memory. This is evident from an announcement made online by VideoCardz.

The MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X Plus gets 8GB gddr5x memory at 11Gbit/s and the GTX 1060 Gaming X Plus gets gddr5 at 9Gbit/s. In both cases this is 1Gbit/s higher than the memory speed of the original models. In all other respects, the video cards are probably the same as the existing models.

It is not yet clear what additional price MSI will ask for the Plus versions of the Gaming X cards. When Nvidia announced the GTX 1080 Ti in early March, the GPU manufacturer also announced that manufacturers would come with versions of the GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 that are equipped with faster memory. At the same time, a price reduction of the existing models was implemented.

Update, 4:07 PM: VideoCardz has removed the message about the MSI cards, but it can still be seen through Google’s cache. The website has also put information online about comparable cards from Asus. In a response, the administrator of the site says that the information is not yet officially allowed to come out. The announcement of the cards was supposed to take place today, but would have been postponed by Nvidia to a later date.
