Mozilla wants to build a ‘super private browsing’ mode for Firefox that includes features from Tor. The browser builder itself has announced this. How the feature will work and when it will come is not yet known.

Mozilla is looking for ways to make the integration of Tor in Firefox go smoothly. “Mozilla is interested in potentially more integrating Tor into Firefox, with the goal of creating a Super Private Browsing mode for our users,” Mozilla said. This would mean that many more people would suddenly start using Tor and the network is not designed for that.

The browser builder is calling on developers to come up with ways to use Tor on a large scale. The company has also made money available for this; the announcement appears on the page where Mozilla offers funding for research in 12 areas of interest. The integration of Tor is one of them.

Browsers already often offer a ‘private window’ feature, which allows users to browse without it being saved to the PC. There is also a Tor Browser based on Firefox that allows users to surf the Internet via the Tor network and visit pages on the dark web. The browser Brave based on Chromium has Tor in the private navigation.
