Mozilla stops developing new browser versions for macOS 10.9 Mavericks, 10.10 Yosemite and 10.11 El Capitan. Next week, Firefox users will switch to the ESR version, which will only receive security updates.

El Capitan is the latest of the three and was released in late 2016. Mozilla recommends users upgrade to a newer version of the desktop operating system, as Apple seems to have stopped supporting older versions of its own OS as well. .

Through an application update, users of Mavericks, Yosemite, and El Capitan will automatically land on the ESR version of Firefox. This Extended Support Release will still receive security updates, but new functions of the browser will no longer be included in the future.
