Mozilla takes over the developer of Pocket
Mozilla has announced that it is acquiring Read It Later. That company develops Pocket, which allows users to save Internet content such as articles and videos for later viewing.
In the announcement of the acquisition, Mozilla writes that it wants to focus on mobile platforms and offer users the opportunity to discover content. The company will not disclose the amount involved in the acquisition. Pocket, as a subsidiary under Mozilla, will continue its current work with the existing team, it says in its own message.
According to Mozilla, the Pocket service should become a product alongside the Firefox browser and ensure that the Context Graph initiative takes off better. The company announced the service last year, describing the plan as a way to find new content on the web based on the context in which users search.
Pocket currently has ten million users across iOS, Android and browsers. The service started about nine years ago as an add-on to Firefox. In 2015, Mozilla already integrated the service into Firefox.
