Mozilla supports two-factor authentication for Firefox accounts

Mozilla has started supporting two-factor authentication for Firefox accounts. Until now, users could only protect the account that the browser uses to synchronize data with a password.

Mozilla uses Time-based One-Time Password for two-step authentication. As a result, it works with different code generation systems, the browser builder writes. Users can use Google Authenticator, Duo, and Authy among others to generate the codes.

Users are also given codes to restore access to the account if they can no longer access their authentication application. Mozilla advises users to keep those codes in a safe place.

Firefox users can turn on two-factor authentication in the browser’s settings. If no option appears under Manage Account, it is possible to add “&showTwoStepAuthentication=true” to the url to make the option appear.
