Mozilla stops Firefox for Windows 8 just before release

Mozilla has canceled the release of Firefox for Windows 8’s Modern interface. According to Mozilla, there were a maximum of 1,000 testers per day, which means that the developer does not have enough test data for the release and the browser would therefore be a ‘fault’.

According to Mozilla, other test versions of the browsers have millions of users per day, but the number of active users of the version for the Modern interface in Windows 8 never exceeded a thousand. As a result, a lot of attention would be paid to support after the release, because many bugs would not be fixed. “We have to choose our battles,” said the browser builder. Firefox for Windows 8 should be released on Tuesday.

Mozilla had been working on the ‘Firefox Metro’ variant since late 2012, but a public test version was only released last month. Mozilla will continue to support the desktop version for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Apps with the Modern interface come in the Microsoft-managed Windows Store. The latest versions of Windows support both desktop apps and apps with the fullscreen Modern interface.
