Mozilla simplifies Firefox developer versions offering on Android
Mozilla has scrapped some developer versions of the Firefox browser on Android. Two of the four versions, named Firefox Preview and Firefox Preview Nightly, are no longer offered, forcing users to switch.
With the simplification, three versions of the Firefox browser remain; the standard, stable Firefox browser, the beta version based on the new Fenix browser, and the Nightly versions for the latest releases, a Mozilla employee explains on Github. By rewriting the Firefox browser, Mozilla offered several versions for Android; The Firefox Preview and Firefox Preview Nightly have been available since last year when Mozilla announced a new version of the Android browser rewritten with Mozilla Android Components and GeckoView.
Firefox Preview users will see a message that they are now on the ‘regular’ Nightly channel. Mozilla recommends moving to the beta for a more stable user experience. Firefox Preview Nightly users will receive a message that the app is no longer being developed and that they should switch to the new Nightly version.
The new Fenix browser should eventually replace the old version of the Firefox browser. Although Mozilla already wanted to have the software finished, it is currently only available as a beta.
