Mozilla shows details singleboard computer Chirimen with Firefox OS
Mozilla has revealed details of its own singleboard computer, Chirimen. The computer is being developed by MozOpenHard and is intended for developers working on iot products.
The Chirimen runs on Firefox OS and is developed along with special web APIs that allow users to control the hardware via the i2c and gpio header. This should probably make it possible to control the computer through Firefox OS with hardware present in the Chirimen, as the developers say they are extending the web APIs of i2c and gpio to control devices.
The singleboard computer has an RK3066-soc and 1GB DDR3 RAM. The Chirimen also has 1GB of flash memory, it offers space for a micro-SD card, two micro-USB ports and one USB port. In addition, it has a micro HDMI port, two UART and two SPI controller interfaces. Furthermore, the computer uses pulse width modulation for information transfer. Wifi is not implemented by default, but can be added by using a usb wifi adapter.
The whole has dimensions of 80x48mm and should cost less than 50 dollars, about 45 euros. All information, such as firmware code, is openly shared by the developers. The Chirimen is currently not available yet.
