Mozilla releases Firefox OS phone with customizable RAM
Mozilla will soon release its first developer device for Firefox OS. The Mozilla Flame is a smartphone with Firefox OS 1.3 and the ability to adjust the available RAM to test the app with both limited and larger RAM.
The phone has a RAM of 1GB, but developers can adjust that in software to, for example, 256MB to see if their app continues to function properly, Mozilla says. The Flame has a 4.5″ screen with a resolution of 854×480 pixels and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200-soc, an MSM8210 with two Cortex A7 cores at 1.2GHz and an Adreno 302 GPU at 400MHz.
The Flame is made by the small manufacturer T2Mobile and has support for 2g, 3g, wifi, gps, bluetooth 3.0 and nfc, so the model should stand for slightly more luxurious Firefox OS phones. The Flame has a storage memory of 8GB. The phone has space for two SIM cards. The Mozilla smartphone can be pre-ordered for around 125 euros. It will be delivered in a month.
It is Mozilla’s first developer phone, although GeeksPhone, including the Keon and Peek, has never released commercially released smartphones with Firefox OS.
