Mozilla releases beta Firefox for Android with Chromecast support
Mozilla has released a new beta version of Firefox for Android. The most recent release has built-in support for streaming to Chromecast. Also, the browser includes a new function to communicate with other users via the webrtc protocol.
The new beta was announced by Mozilla on its blog, but the software is now also available as an update in the Google Play Store. The main innovation is the ability to stream content in the Firefox browser to Google’s Chromecast. For example, it is possible to show videos from the browser on a TV. Buttons then remain available on the screen, with which the user can, for example, pause or stop the video. Chromecast support was already present in the nightly releases of Firefox for Android.
In addition to Chromecast support, it is also possible to stream content to Roku, a similar streaming device. Furthermore, several bugs have been fixed in the new Android beta and support for the Frisian language has been built in.
Meanwhile, Mozilla has also announced that it is expanding support for communication via the webrtc protocol. In a new beta version of the desktop browser, it should be easier to video call other users by clicking the phone icon in the toolbar. Mozilla is calling on users to test the functionality.
