Mozilla pulls its VPN service out of beta as ‘Mozilla VPN’
Mozilla will make Mozilla VPN as a standalone service widely available in the coming weeks, first in the US and in more regions later this year. Last year, the organization announced a beta test of the VPN service. Users temporarily pay $5 per month.
Sometime in the coming weeks, Mozilla will remove its VPN service from beta, after which the company will offer it widely under the name Mozilla VPN. That will initially be in the United States, but Mozilla promises to serve other regions soon. This year, however, the number of countries will remain limited, it can be concluded from the introduction.
Pricing will remain $5 per month for five devices on Windows, Android or iOS for now, with Mac and Linux clients on the way. This is the price Mozilla announced last year in the beta in the US, but this pricing plan is temporary, so a higher price seems likely in the long run.
For its VPN service, Mozilla has partnered with Mullvad, a provider that uses WireGuard and claims to keep no logs. The organization was working on the service under the name Firefox Private Network, not to be confused with the Firefox VPN proxy extension of the same name, which Mozilla offers as a test for $2.99 a month.
