Mozilla changes Firefox Quantum name to Firefox Browser
Mozilla no longer uses the name Firefox Quantum for its web browser from version 70 but Firefox Browser. Version 70 of the software will be released in October and therefore appears to carry the new Firefox logo.
Mozilla has updated the nightly version of Firefox 70 and the browser now displays the text “Firefox Browser” on its ‘About Firefox Nightly’ window. On that window Mozilla still talks about ‘Firefox Quantum’ in the beta of Firefox 69.
Popularly, the browser name is simply Firefox, but Mozilla has officially kept the name Firefox Quantum since the release of version 57 of the browser in late 2017. The name came from the Quantum project to give the Gecko engine a major update and was supposed to indicate that Firefox had become a lot faster.
Firefox Nightly 70 is also the first version with the new logo that Mozilla unveiled in June. Back then, Mozilla already mentioned ‘Firefox Browser’ to distinguish it from the other Firefox services Send, Lockwise and Monitor.
The release of Firefox 70 is scheduled for October 22. The version includes a new interface for the password manager and the browser can suggest secure passwords. The browser also marks web pages without https as unsafe.
