Mozilla plans to bring a version of its Firefox browser to Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. The organization previously rejected a version for the iPhone and iPad, but Mozilla says it can no longer ignore iOS users.

Mozilla announced the arrival of Firefox to iOS during an event in Portland, USA. “We need to be where our users are. That’s why we’re going to bring Firefox to iOS,” draw Firefox’s release manager, Lukas Blakk, on Twitter based on the proposals made at the event.

So far, Mozilla has held off on a release of Firefox for iOS. Apple does not allow browsers in the App Store that are not based on Apple’s version of WebKit. In addition, Safari should remain the default browser on iPhones and iPads. Mozilla refused to make a Firefox version for iOS as long as Apple adhered to these rules, but competitors like Chrome and Opera did come to Apple’s operating system.

Mozilla did bring Firefox Home to iOS for synchronizing browser content, but the organization stopped using that app in September.
