The company Matchstick, which is building a competitor for the Chromecast media player, has launched a successful financing campaign. That means the Firefox OS device will be released. The first Matchsticks will be delivered next month.

With the financing campaign, the Matchstick company has raised $470,000. Converted that is about 372,000 euros. Initially, only $100,000 was requested. Due to the successful Kickstarter campaign, the first backers can expect their HDMI stick next month. This is still a developer version. The final version is expected in February next year.

Matchstick has collaborated with Mozilla for the development of the media player of the same name, which is similar in concept to Google’s Chromecast. The latter developed the Firefox OS operating system, which was used as the basis for the Matchstick. Mozilla had previously announced that it would come with such a media player. The Matchstick is equipped with a Rockchip 3066-dual-core soc, 1GB of ram and 4GB of storage capacity.

Now that the HDMI stick from Matchstick and Mozilla is being released, it is likely that it will be in stores in the long run. However, no release date has yet been announced. The price is already known: for the Matchstick 25 dollars must be paid. It was $18 during the Kickstarter campaign.
