Motorola does not infringe on Apple patents
The US International Trade Commission has ruled that Motorola does not infringe Apple’s patents. This seems to be a ban on sales. Motorola previously won a case against Apple in Germany.
According to the ITC makes Motorola does not infringe three patents owned by Apple. It is still a provisional verdict, which must be confirmed at a later date. Motorola left know in a statement to be happy with the verdict. Apple has not responded.
The lawsuit was filed by Apple in October 2010. Then six more patents were mentioned that Motorola would infringe. All six relate to multi-touch technology. Motorola, in turn, filed a lawsuit against Apple, including in Germany. Apple lost there, allowing Motorola to enforce a sales ban.
Motorola was less fortunate in a lawsuit filed by Microsoft. In December, the ITC ruled that Motorola infringed a patent of the Redmond company. Many Android manufacturers have licensed the use of patents from Microsoft.
Google has been trying to acquire Motorola for a while now for $12.5 billion. However, the internet giant has not yet received the green light for the acquisition: a ruling from the EU is expected at the end of this month.
