Motorola division director of Lenovo quits

The director of the Motorola division of the Chinese electronics manufacturer Lenovo is retiring. Aymar de Lencquesaing headed the cell phone maker for two years. His successor comes from within his own ranks.

De Lencquesaing wants to spend less time flying and more time with his family, the Lenovo division reports. Motorola does not mention any substantive reason for his departure. Many outgoing executives cite ‘more time for family’ as an important argument.

His successor is Sergio Buniac, a Brazilian who has been employed by Motorola since 1996 and went with the new owners during the acquisitions by Google six years ago and Lenovo four years ago.

Motorola further notes that it has undergone many changes in recent years. It has reportedly laid off some of its staff in the US city of Chicago this year and scrapped the notch Moto X5 smartphone in order to return to profitability.
