Moto G5 Series Smartphones Won’t Get Android 9.0 Upgrade
The Motorola Moto G5 series of phones will not be upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie. Lenovo has announced that. The Moto G5 phones came out a year ago and are or will be upgraded from Nougat to Oreo.
With that, the announcement is in line with what Lenovo previously promised, namely that Moto G phones will get one upgrade to a new version of Android. The Moto Z2 Play and Force will get the upgrade, the Moto Z Play and Moto Z of 2016 will not.
Lenovo previously said it will provide Moto Z phones with two upgrades in the future, while Moto G phones are guaranteed to get one upgrade. The Moto E and C devices have to do without an upgrade. For example, the Moto E5, which came out this spring, will not receive an upgrade. This only concerns Android upgrades, not security updates.
Motorola expects to be able to offer the upgrade to users this fall. Google announced Android 9.0 Pie a week and a half ago. In addition to its own Pixel devices, the Essential PH-1 also received an upgrade.
