Developer Cold Symmetry is opening the PC beta of its Souls-esque game Mortal Shell to all players. The beta was previously announced as a closed test. According to the makers, the test version contains no spoilers for the full game.

According to the developer, the demand to participate in the beta is so high, that has been decided to make it freely accessible. Those interested can find the test version in the Epic Games Store, which is the platform where the final PC version will also appear in the third quarter of this year for thirty euros. The game will also be coming to Steam sometime in 2021.

Players will have two Mortal Shells at their disposal in the beta. These are characters in the game with unique fighting abilities, which the player can take over. The game will have a total of four such shells. In June, Cold Symmetry showed gameplay for the first time and the developer explained the game.

The beta version contains no spoilers. “We’re keeping the game’s story a secret for a while,” the makers say. The game world is also protected, so that players can’t discover everything yet. The developer warns that the game is made for fans of Souls-style games and that highly experienced players can complete the beta in about an hour. For others, that will take ‘much longer’.

Mortal Shell was announced in early April. The game was created by a previously unknown studio, Cold Symmetry, which was founded in 2017. The game has been working behind the scenes for two years. The makers get their inspiration from games like Dark Souls. The final game should have about fifteen to twenty hours of gameplay. The game will also be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but there is no beta for the console versions.
