More government institutions are going to use the Eduroam variant for WiFi
Several government institutions have joined the Govroam initiative, a variant of Eduroam but for civil servants. These include the ministries of Education, Culture and Science and of Economic Affairs.
In addition to the ministries, the Tax Authorities, Rijkswaterstaat, the province of Gelderland and the ICTU and Geonovum foundations will also participate in the Govroam network. They announced this in a joint press release on Tuesday. The municipalities of The Hague, Arnhem, Deventer, Heerlen, Rheden and Tilburg have been using the network since the end of last year.
Govroam is the equivalent of Eduroam, which is already popular with educational institutions, but for civil servants. Thanks to the network, officials who have network access at their organization can log in to the other participating organizations without using separate login details. Interconnecting Wi-Fi networks would be easier and more secure.
Govroam started in October last year in the aforementioned municipalities. They tested the concept together with Envolve, Stratix and SURFnet and then put it into use. SURFnet was also the initiator of the Eduroam network, which has been in existence for ten years and is used 20 million times a day in various countries.
