Monster Hunter: World has been delivered 20 million times
Capcom has shipped 20 million copies of Monster Hunter: World worldwide. The game first came out in January 2018 and quickly became Capcom’s best-selling game to date.
With 20 million copies shipped, Monster Hunter: World qualifies for a spot on Wikipedia’s list of the 50 best-selling games of all time. Titles with similar sales figures, according to that list, are GTA: Vice City, The Last of Us, and Garry’s Mod.
Monster Hunter: World was released for consoles early in 2018 and was also released for PC later that year. It was the first game in the series to be released worldwide; earlier installments first appeared in Japan and later came to other regions. According to Capcom, that worldwide release, the focus on digital sales and marketing has driven the game’s success.
The release of the paid Iceborne expansion and a new edition of the game including that expansion also contributed to the good sales, according to Capcom. The publisher has not yet said anything about a sequel. Capcom does call the sales figures of Monster Hunter Rise; of those, 7.5 million copies had been sold for the Nintendo Switch by the end of September. That game is coming to Steam in January 2022.
