Mojang Announces Minecraft: Dungeons
Mojang has announced a new Minecraft game. Minecraft: Dungeons is “the beginning of our expansion of Minecraft into new genres,” according to the developer. Many details are not known, but it will be a top-down dungeon crawler for four players.
The game was revealed on this weekend’s MineCon livestream. The locations players will visit in Minecraft: Dungeons will be places players have never visited before. Furthermore, in one of the interviews the term ‘hack & slash’ was also used to describe the game. The trailer description on YouTube further states that the dungeons are full of treasure and that the four players are tasked with rescuing villagers and defeating the evil Arch-Illager. Among other things, canyons, swamps and mines can be explored.
In any case, the game should be released on PC, with a planned release date sometime in 2019. Lydia Winters, chief brand officer for the studio, also said that more Minecraft games are in development, but nothing further has been said.
Furthermore, Mojang says that Minecraft’s next major update is called Pillage & Village. It will add new friendly, but also hostile NPCs to the game. The pillagers will be equipped with new weapons and their appearance also depends on the type of biome they are in. This update should also be released in 2019.
