Modder shows his own message on the PSP Go screen
The security of the PSP Go is not really cracked yet, but a gamer has managed to display a ‘Hello world’ message on Sony’s new handheld. The mud used an edited savegame for the notification.
Within two days of the release of the PSP Go, hackers managed to display a ‘Hello world’ message on the screen of Sony’s new handheld device. A hacker calling himself FreePlay posted a video on YouTube showing how he can load a hacked savegame that will allow him to conjure up a message on the handheld’s screen. FreePlay did not opt for the standard message ‘Hello world,’ but for the message ‘lol go=hacked. sorry sony.’ However, FreePlay soon released a second video in which the well-known text is shown on the screen of the PSP Go.
FreePlay itself admits that the hack is not complete. It cannot write data to the handheld’s flash memory, nor can it change system settings. According to FreePlay, the hack will not lead to custom firmware, piracy or any Pandora-battery.’ However, the hacker managed to dump the contents of the PSP Go’s flash memory onto the memory stick and then read the contents onto a PC. FreePlay also admits that it uses a hack that has been known for some time. However, he does not want to show which game has the error that he is using, so that Sony cannot fix the error.
