Modder Releases Huge Doom 2 Level

Gamemodder Ben Mansell has created a huge level for Doom 2, which consists more or less of a complete mini-campaign. Mansell has worked on the level for thirteen months and it takes one to three hours to complete.

The level takes place in the military base Foursite, which has been abandoned for unknown reasons. Players must search for a secret entrance, explore the four quadrants of the base, reach the center and escape alive.

Although it’s one level, it’s actually made up of four wedge-shaped mini-levels, each with its own visual style and assortment of enemies. The four separate quadrants end with defeating a boss. When all four areas have been completed, the player gains access to the final battle and can complete the level.

Mansell says he worked on the level for two hundred to three hundred hours over a period of thirteen months. Seasoned Doom 2 players will be able to complete the level in about an hour, but less experienced players will probably take about three hours to complete Foursite 4-in-1 for the first time.

The level is 1.74MB in size and can be downloaded via ModDB. To play the mod, an original version of the 1994 Doom 2 game is required.
