Mod lets gamers ride around on real bike with bike trainer in GTA V
A mod for Grand Theft Auto V has been released that allows gamers to link a bike trainer to the game. For example, it is possible to ride your own bike in the hills of Los Santos. Bike tours can even be exported to Strava.
The mod is called GT Bike V and is published by Makinolo. The mod provides a link with the ANT+ protocol, which bicycle trainers use. According to the maker, bicycle trainers from Tacx, Wahoo, Elite, Bkool, Kinetic and Saris are compatible.
Through the coupling, the speed of the cyclist is passed on to the game. The mod also takes into account the slope, ground surface and wind in the game. That data is sent to the smart bicycle trainer. When activating the mod, players in the game are given a tight cycling suit and they take place on a racing bike. A bicycle computer also appears on the screen.
It is not possible to steer by bicycle, that is why there is an autopilot mode. Different routes can be selected, with varying degrees of difficulty. There is also a manual mode, but then cyclists have to use a keyboard or controller to steer.
It is not yet possible to organize virtual cycling races in GTA V, as the mod only works in the single player part of the game. However, cyclists can record their hill rides in a .fit file, complete with fake GPS coordinates, and upload it to Strava. Screenshots are also captured periodically.
