Mod adds loot boxes to Doom port

Nowadays, a self-respecting game is only complete if there is a gambling element in the form of loot boxes, which offer you as much advantage as possible in the game for a fee. At least, that must have been the consideration for adding them to the classic Doom.

The mod in question is for the Doom port ZDoom and is the work of user Rip and Tear. All weapons and power-ups in the game have been replaced by loot boxes, which can only be opened with a key. Players must collect those keys by killing opponents. When you finally find a loot box, it opens with a blast of confetti and the much needed loot appears. There is also a marketplace in the game, where you can buy the coveted boxes of dollars, as long as the ‘Doom servers’ are available.

With the addition, the classic Doom gets a modern and refreshing sauce, which can also be found in recent games. This increasingly intrusive element in some games has sparked a discussion that has now reached various gambling authorities.
