Mobvoi presents TicWatch with second screen for extending battery life
The Chinese Mobvoi has presented the TicWatch Pro. The watch has two screens on top of each other and users can switch between the OLED screen and the FSTN LCD mode.
The smartwatch can only show Wear OS on the OLED screen. If the user is engaged with the TicWatch Pro, it will be on this primary screen. When the watch is in standby, it switches to the fstn LCD. This LCD technology has often been used in digital watches and in the past also on laptops. The LCD is transparent, so users shouldn’t see it when the screen is off.
If the battery is low, users can switch to Essential Mode, writes The Verge. That shows the time on the fstn LCD. Functions such as the heart rate monitor and pedometer also still work. In that mode, the battery lasts for a month, because the watch completely switches off Wear OS.
Mobvoi is not the first with this idea. Casio did it a few years ago with its Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10. Other specifications of the Mobvoi smartwatch have not yet come out. The TicWatch Pro is a more expensive version of the previously released TicWatch watches. It should be released this summer for under $300.
