Mobile Pixels TRIO makes it possible for laptop users to attach up to two extra screens to their laptop. The TRIO has met its Kickstarter goal and comes in two versions, a 12.5” and a 14” version.

The TRIO is in fact a single screen with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which is placed in a holder that can be placed on the back of a laptop screen with magnets. Two TRIOs connect to each other using security clips so that a user can unfold them on either side of the laptop screen. The two screens can therefore be folded back and there is a mode to put a single screen in portrait position. The installation requires a driver from TRIO and the connection is via a USB cable, with which the screen, which works on a power of 4.5W, also draws power.

There will be two versions: the TRIO 12.5” and the TRIO 14”. The smaller version weighs 680 grams and the larger version weighs 816 grams. For the 12” version you have to pay a minimum of 180 dollars, the price of the 14” variant starts at 200 dollars, converted 158 and 175 euros. In addition, bundles of two screens are available.

The TRIO works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS and Android. The Kickstarter for the product has already far exceeded its target amount: of the intended 30,683 euros, 70,176 euros have been received at the time of writing with more than a month to go. The TRIO is expected to be released in January 2020.

The DUO was published a year earlier. The DUO makes it possible to attach a single extra screen to a laptop. Among other things, this product is heavier and it consumes more than the TRIO and, moreover, the brightness cannot be adjusted. The technology is somewhat reminiscent of the ThinkPad W700ds from 2009, with a 17″ screen and additional extendable 10.6″ panel.
