MMD has announced that the Philips 275P4VYKEB, a 27″ monitor with a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels, will be available from April for a suggested retail price of 1599 euros. The 5k monitor was already announced in September 2015.

The Philips monitor has a pls LCD panel made by Samsung. Like the other 5k monitors on the market today, two displayport connections must be used to drive the resolution of 5120×2880 pixels. The bandwidth of displayport 1.2 is not sufficient to display 14.7 million pixels.

According to the specifications, the screen can display 99 percent of the Adobe RGB color space and does so with 10-bit color reproduction. The maximum brightness is 300cd/m² and the contrast ratio is 1000:1. The monitor is adjustable in height and can be tilted into portrait position.

Apple first used a 27″ panel with 5k resolution in the iMac in late 2014. Dell has had the UP2715K in its range since early 2015 and HP has been supplying the Z27q since March that year. In all cases, these are 27″ monitors .

Later this year, the first video cards with Displayport 1.3 are expected and it is also expected that monitors will appear that support this faster standard. The new Displayport version makes it possible, among other things, to control a 5k monitor via one cable.
