MMD launches 43″ Philips monitor with DisplayHDR 1000 certification
MMD has announced a Philips monitor with a diagonal of 43″ and a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. The screen will receive a DisplayHDR 1000 certification, which means that a peak brightness of 1000cd/m2 is possible.
The Philips 436M6VBPAB uses an MVA panel and has a backlight divided over 32 zones, which can dim independently of each other. That says a representative of the brand to Hardware.Info, which was present at the presentation of the screen.
If the whole screen shows a white image, the maximum brightness is 720cd/m2, the peak brightness of 1000cd/m2 can be achieved on a part of the screen. According to the manufacturer, the panel can display 97.6 percent of the dci-p3 color space thanks to the use of a quantum dot filter on the panel and the backlight. The screen supports HDR10 signals and in combination with the maximum brightness, this results in a DisplayHDR 1000 certification from VESA.
On its website, MMD reports a static contrast of 4000:1. The refresh rate is 60Hz and the display supports Adaptive Sync, which should be compatible with FreeSync. The screen would also have low input lag, of 21ms. The specified gray-to-gray response time is 4ms. According to MMD, which is licensed to use the Philips brand name on monitors, the large screen is primarily intended for console gamers.
At the bottom of the monitor is a strip with ten LEDs, for Ambiglow. That’s a basic version of Ambilight, the technology in Philips TVs that makes the wall take on the colors of what’s in the picture.
MMD will sell the Philips 436M6VBPAB for a suggested retail price of 799 euros. It is not yet known when the screen will be in stores.
