During a manhunt for three robbers in Rijsbergen in March, the C2000 system faltered several times, preventing officers from communicating properly with each other. According to the police, this is the case not because of a few incidents, but because of something that has been going on for years.

Although the C2000 network has a coverage of more than 97 percent, according to Minister Yesilgöz-Zegerius, 100 percent availability cannot be guaranteed. This would be due to changes in the landscape, the built environment and interfering radio sources. “This problem, which is related to the intensive use of (an increasingly limited range of) radio frequencies, is expected to increase further in the coming years,” said the minister in a statement. response to parliamentary questions.

Minister Yeşilgöz-Zegerius indicates that the replacement of the C2000 system is therefore ‘inevitable’ in order to meet the ‘growing needs of users, such as real-time location determination and the use of drones’. A replacement system is being worked on, according to the minister, but ‘requires care and takes time’. It may therefore take some time before the C2000 problem is resolved.
