Apple no longer plans to release a fourth version of the iPhone SE, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims. According to him, the manufacturer has informed the supply chain that production and delivery plans for the phone are being canceled.

The iPhone SE 4, reportedly due in 2024, would be the first to feature Apple’s internal 5G modem, says Kuo. According to him, these modems do not yet work as well as those of Qualcomm, the manufacturer that currently makes the iPhone modems. Apple would therefore like to test its modem in a lower telephone segment on a trial basis before determining whether it will also be used in the iPhone 16. Kuo expects that Qualcomm will continue to supply modems for the iPhone 16 series in any case. now that the SE 4 will no longer be released.

The analyst previously predicted all that Apple would consider delaying or canceling the iPhone SE 4 internally. According to him, this is because the mid- and low-end phones, including the SE 3, were sold below expectations. In addition, the price for the SE 4 for a budget phone would probably be quite high, the analyst wrote, because a full-screen design would have been chosen, without a physical home button. Also, avoiding “unnecessary new product development costs” would allow Apple to meet the challenges of the economic recession.
