Minecraft sees the number of players increase by almost a quarter over the year
Minecraft has gained a significant number of active players in the past year. The game has 112 million players who are active monthly, and that is a considerable increase compared to the 91 million that were recorded a year ago.
Microsoft, as owner of the game, made this known in a conversation with Business Insider. According to Helen Chiang, who is in charge of Minecraft development at Microsoft, there are now 112 million players who log in at least once a month. This makes the game more popular than Fortnite, among others.
The number of 112 million monthly active players also represents an increase of almost a quarter compared to a year ago. In October last year, Microsoft announced that Minecraft has 91 million active players. That number also meant an increase of about 20 million compared to a year earlier.
The fact that Minecraft continues to grow despite being around for about 10 years may also have to do with being offered on more and more platforms. In April this year, Microsoft also started offering Minecraft through the Game Pass subscription service.
