Minecraft is getting cross-platform play on Android, iOS and Windows 10. In addition, add-ons, texture packs and dedicated servers called Realms are also coming to these platforms. This is all happening in the fall of this year.

The developers of Minecraft will announce the news at Microsoft’s E3 press conference in Los Angeles. The whole thing is called the ‘friendly update’. Some of the features have been available for some time for other Minecraft versions and platforms.

The developers intend to “unite players on all platforms”, but they don’t say what they mean by that specifically. Cross-platform play may also come to other platforms at a later date. After all, cross-platform play is technically possible between, for example, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. What they do announce is that add-ons and Realms will also come to the other consoles next year. More information about the franchise will be announced at MineCon in September.
