Microsoft’s Your Phone app lets users take Android phone calls
Microsoft has given its Your Phone app a new update making it usable to take calls from connected Android phones. It is still a preview feature that will be available to a limited group in the coming days.
According to Microsoft, it is Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18999 that adds the previously revealed Calls feature to the Your Phone app within Windows 10. It allows users to answer calls via the app on their PC, but also make phone calls via the PC. In addition, it is possible to reject calls via a text you set yourself or to forward them directly to voicemail. Furthermore, the call history can be viewed via the app and the numbers can be clicked to call them immediately. According to Microsoft, it is also possible to seamlessly transfer calls between PC and telephone.
Conditions apply to be able to use the new functionality. For example, users must have at least a phone with Android 7.0 or higher and be in possession of a Windows 10 PC with Bluetooth support. Furthermore, the preview only appears for Insiders users running the 19H1 version of Windows and requires at least build version 18362.356 of Windows.
The Your Phone app, or ‘Companion app for Your phone’, has long offered a form of screen mirroring, showing communication on the mobile phone on systems with Windows. For example, the app received an update at the end of April that allows notifications from Android phones to be shown, where users can indicate which notifications they want to receive and remove notifications individually or bundled.
