Microsoft’s Slack competitor to be called Microsoft Teams
The collaboration application that Microsoft is working on to compete with Slack will be called Microsoft Teams. Previously, the name seemed to become Skype Teams. Microsoft is likely to announce the program at its Office event next week.
The name Microsoft Teams is apparent from an image that is posted on Twitter. The tweet also contains a link pointing to a page on teams.microsoft.com where the application can be downloaded. The app is not yet accessible to everyone, who clicks on the link will see that there is no permission to view the page. Presumably only Microsoft employees have access to the link at this time.
Although the download link still refers to teams.skype.com, the logo of the new service also shows that the name will be Microsoft Teams. Images of the service already leaked in September, at the time it was assumed that the program would be called Skype Teams.
A Twitter user who visited the download link with his iPhone, got see the message that Microsoft is working on support for his device, but that he should be using a Windows or Mac client at this time. From this it can be concluded that iOS support is not yet available at the moment.
Microsoft will likely present the service at its Office event on November 2. The company is also hosting an event on Wednesday, when a Surface all-in-one PC that may be called Surface Studio will be announced.
