Microsoft plans to bring game streaming through the Game Pass subscription to PCs and Xbox consoles, but that is not the top priority. The xCloud team has it on a list of features being worked on Phil Spencer says that in response to questions about the advent of game streaming to PCs and consoles. According to Spencer, it is “on the long list of cool things that the xCloud team is working on, just a little lower on the list.” With that wording, he indicates that other things have more priority, although Spcer indicates that he wants console and PC gamers to be able to browse the range of games with the same ease using streaming. A Twitter user asked for the feature to try games without having to download and install them, as is now the case with Game Pass for PC and consoles. Since September, members of Microsoft’s Game Pass Ultimate subscription have been able to stream games. For the time being, that only works on Android devices and probably also on iOS soon. Microsoft previously conducted internal tests with a Windows 10 client, but it has never been made public. Also, streaming games is not yet possible on Xbox consoles. During the testing phase, Microsoft called the streaming service xCloud. That name is no longer used in official communication. The resolution is currently limited to 720p. Perhaps that’s one reason why Microsoft hasn’t yet enabled streaming to PCs and Xbox consoles. Due to the relatively low resolution, the image quality on large screens may be disappointing for users.
