Microsoft: Xbox 360 marketplace won’t end after all

Microsoft says that despite an earlier message, there is no question of an upcoming closure of the digital Xbox 360 Marketplace, where games for this older console can be purchased. The message about the closure turns out to be an error.

Gematsu, among others, shows that a spokesperson has a made an official statement which says that the marketplace will not be closed from May. However, the spokesperson does give a reminder that from February 7 a limited number of games, add-ons, and a certain amount of in-game content are no longer available for purchase in certain regions of the Xbox 360 store. These would include titles such as Jet Set Radio, Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, and Spelunky.

Earlier this week, an official notice appeared on the Xbox 360 Marketplace support page stating that the Xbox 360 games marketplace will be closed for the next year. Players were called upon to purchase Xbox 360 games or DLC by May this year. Including the Wario64 Twitter account reported about this.

It’s not uncommon for marketplaces for older console games to disappear. For example, from March 27, it will no longer be possible to make game purchases in the digital stores for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
