Microsoft working on dark theme for Outlook.com
Microsoft has been working on a dark theme for Outlook.com for several months and will introduce it shortly. The company already showed a test rendering during Halloween last year, but it took quite a bit of work.
The company reports this in a message on the Outlook feedback page, where a request for a dark mode for Outlook has received more than a thousand votes. Microsoft had wanted to release the dark display earlier, but postponed it in order to optimize it, according to the message from the Outlook team.
Last year, Outlook on the web briefly went dark during Halloween. Microsoft now calls this a sneak peak and reports that this rendering still required many changes to get it ready for wide availability: “We changed the colors and the code several times.”
More and more software and services are getting a dark display mode. Windows 10 has had this since the Anniversary Update and macOS will get a dark mode with the upcoming Mojave update. YouTube also has a Dark Mode that can be switched on.
