Microsoft withdraws Exchange Server 2010 SP3 update due to bugs
Microsoft has withdrawn an update for Exchange Server 2010 SP3 labeled Update Rollup 8. Among other things, the update prevented Outlook 2010 clients from connecting to the Exchange server.
According to Heise, the Update Rollup 8 for Exchange Server 2010 SP3 causes connectivity issues with the groupware server after installation. For example, some Outlook 2010 users can no longer open their ‘sent items’ in their mailbox. The calendar function would also no longer function properly.
Microsoft acknowledges the issues, although they would only occur on servers running the SP3 version of Exchange Server 2010; systems with SP2 and SP1 do not suffer from the bugs. The software giant has now decided to take the offending Update Rollup 8 offline and only make it available again when the bugs have been fixed. Microsoft recommends companies and organizations that have already installed the affected Update Rollup to remove it via the rollback feature.
In addition to issues with the Exchange Server 2010 SP3 updates, update KB3002339 for Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 also appears to contain bugs; several users report that they are unable to install the update on their systems. It is still unclear what the exact reason is.
