Microsoft withdraws AMD driver from Windows Update after startup problems
Microsoft has pulled an update for an AMD driver from Windows Update following complaints from users. During the update, they received a message that their computers could no longer boot. The PCs then show a bsod.
The issue occurs with version 9.3.0.221 of the SCSI adapter driver for AMD systems. On the Microsoft forum and the AMD subreddit, many users complain that the update is breaking their system. The update causes a blue or a green screen of death on the PCs. Users will then see an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE message. The only way to boot the operating system is to go into Recovery mode and use Startup Repair.
Microsoft has not yet officially responded, but an employee confirms on Reddit that the update has been pulled from Windows Update. It’s not clear what exactly causes the bug, but from user reports, the issues seem to mostly affect users of Gigabyte motherboards.
