Microsoft will release the Surface Laptop 5 series with Intel CPUs at the end of October

Microsoft announces the Surface Laptop 5 family, consisting of two series powered by an Intel CPU. Configurations with an AMD CPU are no longer possible for this generation. The series of laptops will be released on October 25 from 1179 euros.

There will be two main versions within the new Surface Laptop 5 series, such as let Microsoft know. It concerns a variant with a 13.5″ screen and a version with a 15″ display, respectively with a resolution of 2256×1504 and 2496×1664 pixels. Both variants support Dolby Vision IQ and there is a USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4 port.

For the smaller model, customers can choose from a twelfth-generation Core i5-1235U and Core i7-1255U processor. The version with the 15″ screen only comes with the Core i7-1255U. Previously, customers could also choose from a variety of AMD Ryzen processors, but that is no longer the case for the fifth-generation Surface laptops. Microsoft reports: ” We are now focusing on Intel’s 12th Gen processors.” The company still claims to be partners with AMD but does not explain why Laptop 5 variants with a Ryzen CPU are not available.

The 13.5″ version has 256 or 512 gigabytes of storage space and 8 or 16GB of ram. The larger variant has 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage space and 8, 16 or 32GB Lpddrx5 memory. The laptops are powered by Intel’s Iris Xe graphics GPU. Microsoft will release the 13.5″ and 15″ Surface Laptop 5 on October 25 for a starting price of 1179 and 1529 euros respectively.
