On October 10, support for Office 2007 will end. As of that date, Microsoft will no longer release security updates for any vulnerabilities found in the office suite.

As an explanation for pasting the end-of-life status on Office 2007, Microsoft emphasizes that as of October 10, it will no longer provide technical support for the software, develop bug fixes and no longer patch security holes. In addition, Microsoft will stop support for rpc/http from October 31, which will affect Office 2007 as the suite cannot handle its successor mapi/http. Microsoft released mapi over http in 2014 as the successor to rpc over http, or Outlook Anywhere. Outlook 2007 users can continue to use rpc/http for Exchange Online mailboxes through the Office 365 portal, but Microsoft no longer supports it and the company recommends upgrading.

The company advises users who have not yet done so to switch to Office 365, Office 2016 or other suites that appeared after version 2007, such as Office 2010 and 2013. The mainstream support of Office 2010 has now ended, but the extended support, where the security updates will end in October 2020. For Office 2013, mainstream support will end in one year, October 4, 2018, but extended support will continue through November 4, 2023. For Office 2016, extended support will end in October 2025. Last week, Microsoft announced a new version of its office suite: Office 2019. It will be released next year.

Update Monday, 09.00: Clarifies that Office 2007 can continue to work with Office 365, but without support.
