Microsoft will continue Mail and Calendar migration to Outlook as of August
Microsoft continues the migration of the Mail and Calendar app. This will happen from August onwards. Then Mail and Calendar for Windows will be replaced by Outlook. Support will stop completely from the end of 2024.
Microsoft is therefore continuing with its plans, although it previously said it was reconsidering them. The company announced in June this year that it planned to migrate Mail and Calendar to Outlook. That would happen ‘in 2024’. After much commotion from users, Microsoft then said that it wanted to reconsider the decision, although the company mainly talked about ‘the timing’.
The company is now registering an advisory to Microsoft 365 customers that it wants to continue with the plans. This will even happen a little earlier than planned: from the end of August, instead of September. Mail and Calendar users will then be automatically migrated to the new Outlook for Windows app. They can manually go back to the old apps. This is possible until the end of 2024. From then on, support for the apps will stop completely. New Windows machines will no longer be supplied with Mail and Calendar. The migration applies to both Windows 10 and 11 users.
