Microsoft is also going to release its Edge browser based on Chromium for Linux. It is not yet clear when that version will be released. The final version for Windows and macOS will be released on January 15.

Microsoft confirmed the development of a Linux version during a session on Edge at its Ignite event. That the browser also comes out for Linux is not very surprising. Microsoft already has versions for macOS, Android and iOS, in addition to the variants for Windows. References to Linux were also found in previous test versions. However, Microsoft has so far not commented on a release for Linux.

It is still unclear when the Linux version will be released. At the presentation, Microsoft only showed that the Edge browser based on Chromium will come to the operating system ‘in the future’. On Monday, Microsoft announced that the new Edge browser will be officially released on January 15 for Windows and macOS. The release candidate is already available for download.
