Microsoft would like to invest $10 billion in ChatGPT maker OpenAI and would like 49 percent of its shares. The investment would be accompanied by other investors, who together would also own 49 percent of OpenAI.

OpenAI and Microsoft are according to Semafor sources has been in talks for the past few weeks about the investment, which would see Microsoft get 75 percent of OpenAI’s profits until the company recoups its investment. After that, Microsoft would own 49 percent of OpenAI and other investors would own 49 percent. A nonprofit would then hold the remaining 2 percent of OpenAI.

The investment would value OpenAI at $29 billion. earlier said Wall Street Journal sources all that investment firms Thrive Capital and Founders Fund were interested in a portion of OpenAI, also citing a valuation of $29 billion. That newspaper already wrote in October that Microsoft was in talks to get a larger share of OpenAI.

Microsoft and OpenAI are no strangers to each other: in 2019, the company already invested a billion dollars in OpenAI.
