Microsoft wants to give Xbox One gamers free access to games for a day
Microsoft would have plans to give Xbox One owners samples of games by making them playable for free for a day. This probably requires a subscription to Xbox Live Gold.
Details about a so-called ‘free play day’ first appeared on Reddit. A Twitter message from Xbox support account seems confirm the find, but give no further details. Xbox does state that it will soon provide more information, although this was not clear from the message. The game demos would be in a preview version of the Xbox software.
Presumably, Xbox One users who have an Xbox Live Gold subscription will be able to try out some games for free for a day. It is not yet clear which games will offer this demo. Microsoft will probably need to negotiate this with publishers and rights holders to make this possible. It is already possible to play some games for free with an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
With Playstation Plus, Sony already offers games that can be tried out for free. However, the trial period is only one hour and the service is not yet available for the PlayStation 4.
