Microsoft has provided an explanation on the basis of which it will provide games with an Optimized for Xbox Series X label. The company reports doing this, among other things, if a game offers higher frame rates and shorter loading times on its upcoming console.

Microsoft will use the Optimized for Xbox Series X designation for new games developed as standard for the Xbox Series X and for existing titles that have been modified to take advantage of the additional processing power and functionality of the new console.

The company does not have a precise checklist of requirements to label games. It may include multiple improvements, according to the company, from improved display, faster loading times and use of hardware DirectX ray tracing functionality.

As far as frame rates are concerned, Microsoft has set the target of 60fps at 4k for the games in question. With some games that can go up to 120fps and Microsoft also mentions the option for variable refresh rates for developers. At the same time, Microsoft is publishing a list of games that are already known to be optimized for the Xbox Series X.
