The latest Insiders Preview Build 14915 of Windows 10 recently sent to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring appears to contain a feature to reduce the amount of blue light emitted from a screen.

That discovered a user of the preview named Core on Twitter. Core found references to an option called BlueLightReduction. The user also notes that the feature will likely be accessed via a Quick Action slide in the notification area of Windows 10 for both PC and mobile.

Using the function, it should be possible to reduce the amount of blue light emitted by a screen because blue light can disrupt the sleep rhythm in some people. Blue light has more influence than other colors on the melatonin balance in the body and thus on the sleep rhythm. Melatonin is sometimes also referred to as the ‘sleep hormone’, although that name is not entirely correct because it works the other way around in certain nocturnal animals.

There are already applications for Windows to reduce the amount of blue light by adjusting the color temperature, such as f.lux. The feature in Windows should do the same according to Winbeta. It could, among other things, adjust the illumination of the display according to the intensity of the ambient light or the time of sunrise and sunset.
