Microsoft tests transcription of game chats in Halo Wars 2
Microsoft is testing a feature to convert narration to typed text and vice versa in Halo Wars 2 game on Windows 10 and Xbox One. The feature should also be available in other games at a later stage.
The function should allow users who, for example, have a hearing problem or who do not want to or cannot turn on sound, can still participate in game chats when other players communicate via speech. Conversely, users who cannot read can also participate in game chats when other players are typing. The feature is in the accessibility options, Microsoft reports.
Users must choose either option. The Xbox One or Windows 10 PC can display narration or speak typed text, but not both. It is unknown how the feature handles swear words. Some transcription services censor that. The test will take place in Halo Wars 2, and the feature should work in other games in the future as well.
